New (Oct 2023): The iPropWiz Property Editor has been updated for Inventor 2023 and later versions to support Model State property management. See the Property Editor - Model States page for information on the updated UI and functionality. A number of help pages have also been updated with new functionality related to model state property management.

After an administrator has created one or more iPropWiz configurations, you use the iPropWiz Property Editor ( PE ) to enter values for configuration defined properties in selected documents. You can also override material, mass, and volume values for some document selections. Importantly, you can have the iPropWiz Property Editor open while working in Autodesk Inventor. As you change the active document, or make selections of components in an assembly or drawing, the PE updates to show properties from the associated Autodesk Inventor documents. You can edit property information quickly and accurately for single or multiple documents at the same time.

If you open the PE in an assembly or drawing document, the PE will show the properties from the documents in the current selection set. For example, if you have a drawing view selected and open the PE, the PE will display the properties for the model displayed in the drawing view. Likewise, if you have two part occurrences (different parts) selected in an assembly, the property values from the two parts will be displayed in the PE.

If the current selection set is empty or contains entities that are not directly related to documents, the properties of the top-level document are displayed.

Access:

  Ribbon > Add-Ins tab > iPropWiz panel :  iPropWiz

Ribbon > Manage tab > iPropWiz panel :  iPropWiz

  Quick Access toolbar >

Note: Your administrator may have removed the automatic addition of the iPropWiz button to the Quick Access Toolbar ( QAT ). If so, you can use Autodesk Inventor's Customize User Commands tool to add the button to the QAT.

Click the button to view a video that presents an overview of the iPropWiz Property Editor.

The iPropWiz Property Editor layout is outlined in the following table. Details of each section are available on separate pages.

iPropWiz configuration

You can select a new iPropWiz configurations folder, and select from the configurations in that folder. The active iPropWiz configuration file path is displayed in the title bar. See the Property Editor - Configurations page for more information on iPropWiz configurations.

Toolbar

In addition to the iPropWiz configuration tools, the toolbar contains tools to export and import property values, and to support entry of property values in the property grid. See the Property Editor - Toolbar page for more information on these tools.

Document selection

The Selection group provides tools for selecting documents referenced in the currently active document in Autodesk Inventor. The tools include a drop-down list of common selection groups, document filters and sorting tools, a document browser, and a thumbnail viewer. In part and presentation documents, the selection tools are disabled and the you can only work with the properties in the active document. When the active document is an assembly or drawing, you can select one or more documents referenced in the assembly or drawing, and then edit the properties of all selected documents. These selection tools compliment the ability to perform selections directly in the Autodesk Inventor graphics window and browser. See the Property Editor - Document Selection section for more information on selecting documents for property edit.

Note: New - Oct 2023: For Inventor 2023 and later, selection of occurrences of a specific model state can display the properties for that model state.

Selected documents

A summary of the currently selected documents is displayed here. Changes to property values update all selected documents when you click the Apply or OK buttons. See the Property Editor - Selected Documents section for more information on selected documents.

Physical properties

When a single part or assembly document is selected, the Physical Properties group displays the physical properties of the model. See the Property Editor - Physical Properties page for more information on working with physical properties.

Property grid

The property grid is the heart of the iPropWiz Property Editor. Designed to minimize the time required to accurately enter property information, the property grid lists the properties included in the active iPropWiz configuration. Since each document type has a separate property set in the configuration, the property editor lists the properties that are associated with the currently selected documents. If different document types ( i.e. part and assembly) are concurrently selected, the property grid lists the common properties in the property sets. See the Property Editor - Property Grid page for more information on working with the property grid.

Model / Flat pattern extents

When a single part, sheet metal part, assembly, or weldment document is currently selected, the extents grid can be refreshed to show the size of a bounding box containing the model (3D), and the size of a rectangle containing the flat pattern (2D). If the current iPropWiz configuration specifies that model or flat pattern extents be exported as custom iProperties, the values will use any custom formatting rules applied to the exported values. See the Property Editor - Extents Grid page for more information.

Property update controls

These buttons manage the update of iProperties in the selected Autodesk Inventor documents.

Apply any changes in the property grid values to the Autodesk Inventor iProperties in the selected documents. The current selection is maintained after the update.

Discard any changes made in the property grid, and restore the current values from the selected documents.

Apply any changes to property values and close the iPropWiz Property Editor.

The iPropWiz Property Editor contains a number of collapsible panels. In addition, you can manage the visibility of some columns in the property grid from the Property Editor Options dialog. With all panels collapsed, and most of the optional columns hidden, the width of the PE can be considerably reduced.

The PE is a modeless window. You are free to interact with Autodesk Inventor while the PE is visible. One of the key features of iPropWiz is that as you make selections of different objects in Autodesk Inventor, the PE will update to show the included properties for the associated Autodesk Inventor documents.

You can optionally lock the PE to the right or left edge of the Autodesk Inventor window where it will resize its height to match the Autodesk Inventor window. See the Property Editor Options page for more information on docking the PE.

Note: If you are not currently entering property information it is best practice to either close the PE, or click the light bulb tool  at the end of the PE toolbar to deactivate the PE. Click the light bulb tool again to reactivate the PE, or reopen the PE using one of the access points listed above.
