Property Editor - Physical Properties

Send comments on this topic.

The physical properties (if available) of the selected document are displayed above the property grid.

Expand / collapse button

Click the button to collapse or expand the Physical Properties group. Optionally, double-click the Physical Properties title bar to collapse or expand the group.

Material selection list

Select a material from the drop down list to apply to all selected part documents. The material selection list is enabled when one or more part files are selected. This includes standard parts, sheet metal parts, or virtual parts.

The materials listed depend on the Autodesk Inventor Asset Libraries associated with the active iPropWiz configuration. See the Configuration Editor - Options - Materials page for more information on managing materials in an iPropWiz configuration.

If the selected parts do not share a common material assignment, *VARIES* is displayed as the material selection. In addition, *VARIES* is added to the list of available materials. You can select a material to be applied to all parts, or select *VARIES* to retain the current material assignments

(New: Oct 2023 - V7.23+) Material change for each selected model state is now supported. Available when document selection set to include model state documents.

Retain appearance override

This check box determines the behavior of part level appearance overrides when a new material is applied to a part.

Checked:  If the part currently has a appearance override applied at the part level (not at the body or face level), the override is maintained when a new material is applied to the part.

Unchecked: The appearance asset associated with the selected material is applied to the part.

Refresh

Click to refresh the mass, volume, and area values.

Mass/volume/area

If a single part (part, sheet metal, or virtual part) is selected, its mass, volume, and area are displayed using the active units of the part document. You can enter new values for mass or volume (along with any compatible units). The area text box is read only.

If you override a mass or volume value, the calculated property icon is replaced with an overridden property icon.

For performance reasons, physical properties (mass, volume, area) are not initially displayed when a single assembly is selected. Click the update button to the right of the Mass/Volume text boxes to update the values in the iPropWiz Property Editor. Once updated, you can override mass and volume values for the assembly. The initial update does not dirty the assembly document.

Mass, volume, and area values are not available when multiple documents are selected for property edit.

Note: (New: Oct 2023 - V7.23+) Autodesk Inventor does not support mass and volume overrides per model state. An override for one model state overrides the value for all model states in the document.

Material Library refresh

New (Feb 2022): If your Inventor project uses a custom material library, Inventor does not resolve any links to materials in the Autodesk or Inventor material libraries until the library is first accessed. This results in the iPropWiz materials list showing these materials with a "Material-xxx" or similar name. To refresh the list with the fully resolved names:

1.Open a part or assembly file.

2.In Inventor, click the Material Browser button

Note: In Inventor 2022, you can optionally just click the down arrow to the right of the current material to display the materials list.

3.If you have opened the Material Browser, close it.

4.In the iPropWiz Property Editor, click the Material Library refresh button.

Note: This refresh is only required once per Inventor session. If you change project files or the material library in use, refresh the library list using the above process..
