Text font in value cell

The following image outlines the different fonts used to display values in the iPropWiz Property Editor.

Dimmed ( Read-only )

If the value cell text is a light gray color, the value cannot be edited. A value cell will be read-only under the following conditions.

The text property is controlled by a fixed property expression in the active iPropWiz configuration and expression edit is not available for this property.

The text property is the Part Number property and the active iPropWiz configuration specifies it be replaced by the file name.

The text property value is generated by extracting a group of characters from another property. (Text type properties only)

The text property value is a fixed value from a secondary field in a multi-property list.

The property is marked as Locked in the active iPropWiz configuration.

Bold ( Editable )

If the value cell text is shown with a bold font style, the value can be edited by entering a new value. A value cell will be editable under the following conditions.

The property is a text or numeric data type property, and has is not controlled by a list or property expression.

The text property is controlled by a Simple text list but is not marked as From List Only.

The text property is controlled by a Multilevel Tree list but is not marked as From List Only.

The text property is controlled by a fixed property expression in the active iPropWiz configuration and expression edit is available for this property.

Normal ( Select from list only )

If the value cell text is shown with a normal font style, the value can only be set by selecting a value from the associated list. This applies to text and numeric data type properties controlled by a list where the property is marked as From List Only.

Note: A text type property may be driven by the use of a multi-property list ( a list that can assign values to multiple properties at once ). Under some circumstances the ability to edit the value of this cell can change between all three states (read-only, editable, and select from list only), depending on the value assigned to another property, the value of an Autodesk Inventor parameter, or the material assigned to a part. See the Property Grid - Property lists page for more information.

Required Values

If a property is marked as required in the current iPropWiz configuration, it will be noted with a red asterisk in the Required column. In addition, if the value cell does not contain a value, an error indicator is shown in the value cell. If you do not enter a value for these properties, you are prevented from updating the properties in the selected document(s). If you click Apply or OK when there are one or more required values missing, the updates are not applied and the first value cell with a missing value is selected.

Restore Value

All data types support the Restore Value tool available from the right-click context menu. If you make a mistake in entering a value, you can restore the current value from the selected Autodesk Inventor documents by selecting Restore value from the context menu.

If you have multiple documents selected, this may result in the value cell showing *VARIES*, or the local language equivalent.

You can only restore a value prior to updating the Autodesk Inventor iProperties.

Note: You can restore all property values with the Reset button.

Multiple Documents Selected

When multiple documents are selected in an assembly or drawing, the property grid displays the iPropWiz controlled properties common to the selected documents. For example, if a standard part, a subassembly, and a sheet metal part are selected in an assembly, only those iPropWiz controlled properties that are common to the part, assembly, and sheet metal property sets in the current iPropWiz configuration are listed.

In addition, when multiple documents are selected, the value for each property in each document is compared. If the values for the same property differ the displayed value is *VARIES* or the local language equivalent. If you do not edit this value in the grid, all documents retain their current value for this property when the properties are updated.

Notes:

If you edit a property that displays a value of *VARIES* and then reconsider, you can re-enter *VARIES* in the cell  ( or your local language version of *VARIES* ) to prevent updates to the property in the selected documents. You must re-enter this value before you update the properties.

If the property associated with a list, *VARIES is added to the list. You can select this list item to retain the original values in each document.

If the value is a date, select Restore values from the cell context menu. See the Property Grid - Date values for information on date properties and multiple selections.
