In an iPropWiz configuration, numeric properties can have an assigned list of values and text properties can obtain their value from a variety of list types. If a property has an associated list, you can typically select a value from the drop-down list in the value cell. A Numeric property is limited to a simple value/description list, while the list for a text property can be a Simple value/description list where you can select one or multiple values, or a Multi-level Tree list.
Click the button to view a video that demonstrates working with lists in the iPropWiz Property Editor. |
The following image shows a Simple text list assigned to a property.
For a tree list, you can only select from the nodes listing values.
Tip: Click a column header (Value or Description) to sort the grid on the column value. Click a second time to reverse the sort order. |
Tip: If a property has an associated list, the drop down arrow is always displayed in the value cell. If you enter this cell by using the keyboard, the drop-down is not automatically activated. Press the F2 function key or click the drop down arrow to open the drop-down. Press the Esc key to close an open drop down list. |
Simple Text List, Single Selection Only
The most commonly assigned list for text type properties is a Simple text list ( Value/Description ) where you are limited to making a single selection from the list.
If the property is not marked as From List Only, you can type in any text in the value cell, or select a list value from the drop down list. Press the F2 key or click the drop down arrow to view the list values.
If the property may be marked as From List Only, you will not be able to enter a value that is not in the list. However, you can still type in the value cell to automatically drop down the list and filter the values shown in the drop down.
In both cases above, the list is displayed and filtered as you type. Filtering removes all values that do not start with currently entered characters. In the following image, the drop down list with all list items is initially shown. Entering B in the value cell filters the list to all list values starting with the letter B ( case insensitive ).
Note:
If the property is not restricted to values in the list, the cell font is bold. You can select a value from the list or enter a new value in the cell. Entering a new value does not add the value to the list.
If the property is restricted to values in the list, the cell font is normal

Simple Text List, Multiple Selection
A variation of the simple text list, this list enables you to select multiple items in the list for inclusion in the property value. When the list is created, an iPropWiz administrator can specify the separator character between values, and control spaces in the value.
To select values from the list, check the check box in the item row. Click the Select All row to select all items, click a second time to remove all items from the selection.
Multi-level Tree List
Another text property list, a Multi-level Tree list presents data in a structured tree format. The list structure makes it easier to drill down to the value of interest.
As with Simple text lists, the font style of text in the value cell indicates whether you can enter a value not in the list ( bold font , or select items only from the list ( normal font ).
As with Simple text lists, progressive name matching is performed as you type in the value cell. This occurs whether the drop down list is displayed or not displayed. In the following images, the value cell is initially blank. When H is typed in the value cell, the list is filtered to show only those items that start with the letter H ( case insensitive ).
Multi-level Tree lists also support value searching. To search for all items containing a specific text string:
1.Ensure the drop down tree list is visible. Press the F2 key or click the drop down arrow to open the list.
2.Press Ctrl+F key combination to open the search tools at the top of the drop down list.
3.Enter one or more characters in the search text box to search for in the Value column. The list is filtered as you type.
4.Make your selection from the filtered values.
Use the Clear button to clear the search, Click the close button to the left of the search text box to close the search tools.
Multi-property Lists
An iPropWiz configuration can also contain lists that can assign values to multiple text type properties at the same time. These multi-property lists are outlined in the following table:
Multi-property List Type |
Primary Values |
User can select |
Notes |
Text |
Text values |
Yes |
The primary value property is assigned from a value/description list drop-down. The property is marked From List Only. See the Multi-Property Lists page for more information on the structure of multi-property lists. |
Parameter |
Numeric value criteria |
No |
If the value of the associated parameter meets a criterion in the primary list, properties associated with secondary list fields are updated. See the Multi-Property Lists page for more information on the structure of multi-property lists. |
Material |
Material asset names |
No |
If the current material asset name matches a material asset name in the primary list, properties associated with secondary list fields are updated. See the Multi-Property Lists page for more information on the structure of multi-property lists. |
Secondary Fields
For all multi-property lists, the value assigned to a property associated with a secondary list field can be a fixed text value, or another Simple text or Multi-level Tree list.
For example, in the active iPropWiz configuration the Primary Value from a Multi-property Text list is assigned to Property A. A secondary list field from this list is assigned to Property B.
In the iPropWiz Property Editor:
You select Value 1 from the primary values list assigned to Property A. (Note that property associated with the primary values list in a Multi-property Text list is always marked as From List Only).
Property B is assigned a fixed value of Secondary Value 1. This value comes from the same row in the list, from the secondary list field associated with Property B. You cannot edit this value.
You select Value 2 from the primary values list assigned to Property A.
Property B is assigned a Simple text list named MyList. This value comes from the same row in the list, from the secondary list field associated with Property B. You can select a value from the list, and if the property is not marked as From List Only, you can enter a different value.
