Manage Value Generators

Manage the Property Value Generators that can be applied to both Text and Number based instance property definitions. This key feature of iPropWiz enables you to quickly add unique property values to assembly occurrences.

Add, Remove, or Edit Value Generators for Text based Instance Property Definitions. See the Instance Properties - Text Value Generators page for more information.

Add, Remove, or Edit Value Generators for Number based Instance Property Definitions. See the Instance Properties - Number Value Generators page for more information.

Property Definition Grid

You manage the options for each instance property definition in the Property Definition Grid. Each property type has different options available. See the column definitions below for more information on how each column works with specific property types.

Property Order

The order the instance properties will be displayed in the Instance Properties Property Editor. The Property Definition Grid supports drag and drop reordering of the rows. See the Drag and Drop in Grids page for more information.

Property Type

Standard iPropWiz glyphs for the different property types.

Property Name

The name of the instance property. iPropWiz adds all instance properties to the Autodesk Inventor standard User Defined property set (Custom properties).

Default Value

A default value for the property. This default value can be applied from a context menu in the Instance Properties Property Editor. The following table outlines the use of a default value for each property type.

Date

Number

The standard default is zero (0). Any positive numerical value can be entered.

Yes / No

The standard default is No.

Use Today's Date as Default

For Date type instance properties, check this to use the current date as the default date when the property is added to an assembly occurrence. Unless you have a specific date you want to apply as the default, leave this checked.

Text Value Generator

Available only for Text type properties. Select the desired Value Generator from the drop down list. Select the None option to remove the Value Generator. See the Instance Properties - Text Value Generators page for more information.

Note: If a Value Generator other than None is selected, you cannot apply an expression to the instance property definition.

This setting is available for both Text and Number property types when a Value Generator other than None is selected. Value Generators maintain their current value between Autodesk Inventor sessions and when editing different assemblies. The ability to reset the Value Generator will be commonly be required and should only be turned off after careful consideration.

Allow Generator Value Edit

This setting is available for both Text and Number property types when a Value Generator other than None is selected. Checking this option enables a user to edit the current value for the Value Generator. This can be useful for resetting the value if the Value Generator was applied to an incorrect set of occurrences in the Instance Properties Property Editor. Users cannot change the format of the Value Generator, they can only chose from valid values (Text), or enter a valid value (Number).

Available only for Text type properties. Click the fx glyph in the cell to open the Instance Property Expression Editor. You can create a property expression from the standard iProperties in the native part or assembly of the occurrence and any of the valid Text type instance properties included in the Property Definition Grid.

Note: A property expression can only be created if the Value Generator for the instance property is set to None. If and expression is assigned you cannot select a different Value Generator.

Custom Property File Source

You can specify a specific Autodesk Inventor document (part or assembly) to provide the User Defined (Custom) iProperties for the Instance Property Expression Editor. If no file is selected, the custom properties from the active document are used.
