Manage custom properties

The Manage custom properties dialog lets you quickly add, remove, rename, and reorder the custom iProperties in the active Autodesk Inventor document. As an iPropWiz administrator you can use this tool to speed up the process of adding custom properties to your document templates.

Document

The active Autodesk Inventor document. All custom property changes are written to this file when you click OK or Apply.

Controls

Add new custom properties or delete properties selected in the property grid.

Add:

Click the Add button to add a new Text based property. Properties are not added to the document immediately, you must click OK or Apply to save the new properties to the document.

Click the down arrow to select a specific property type to add. If there is no active editor in the property grid, the noted shortcut keys can be used to add the specific property type.

Text ( Ctrl + T )

Date ( Ctrl + D )

Number ( Ctrl + N )

Yes / NO ( Ctrl + Y )

Delete Selected Rows: ( Delete )

If confirmed, deletes the selected rows in the grid. Properties are not deleted from the document immediately, you must click OK or Apply to remove any existing properties from the document.

Use Ctrl or Shift + a click in the row header to select multiple property rows in the grid.

Custom properties grid

All custom iProperties in the active Autodesk Inventor document are loaded into the property grid when the dialog is displayed.

You are free to edit both the Name and Value for the property.

The property type cannot be changed.

Custom properties generated by iPropWiz are displayed but the Name and Value are read-only. These properties have names that typically start with "ipw".

Any text property currently controlled by an Autodesk Inventor property expression is identified by a fx symbol at the end of the value cell.

Click the value cell and hover over the symbol to preview the current property expression.

The Name of the property can be edited but the value is read only. To remove the expression delete the property, apply the change, and recreate the property.

Note: It is best practice to control Property Expressions using the tools available in the iPropWiz Configuration Editor.

Click the Order, Property Type, or Name column header to sort the grid by that column, Click a second time to reverse the sort direction.

You can use Drag and Drop to reorder the properties in the grid. See the Drag and Drop in Grids page for more information.

Note: The Autodesk Inventor iProperties dialog always shows a sorted view of the custom properties. By default they are sorted by Name where UPPER case letters are considered differently that lower case letters. Reordering the properties here is primarily for convenience when dealing with custom iProperties in iPropWiz..

Click the Apply button to save your changes to the active Autodesk Inventor document and return to editing.

Click OK to save your changes and close the dialog.
