iPropWiz Copy and Paste

iPropWiz adds the unique ability to copy property values and expressions from an Autodesk Inventor source document to one or more Autodesk Inventor documents. You control the options for iPropWiz Copy and Paste from the iPropWiz Configuration Editor ( CE ). See the Configuration Editor - Options - Global page for more information.


 

 

Click the button to view that demonstrates how to copy and paste property values and expressions between documents.

 


Copy Property Values: 

 To copy property values, use any of the following methods:

 

In an open Autodesk Inventor document, right-click the graphics screen background. Click Copy iPropWiz properties.  The active document is set as the property source document.

In an assembly, select a single part or subassembly. Right-click the component. Click Copy iPropWiz properties. The document associated with the occurrence is set as the property source document.

In a drawing, switch to Part Priority selection. Right-click a part edge in a drawing view. Click Copy iPropWiz properties. The part document associated with the occurrence is set as the property source document.

In a drawing, right-click a drawing view. Click Copy iPropWiz properties. The part or assembly referenced in the view is set as the property source document..

In the Copy From dialog, you check the properties you want to copy. If the option to copy property expressions is on, text based properties controlled by a property expressions also have a check box to enable you to copy the expression. Check the expression check box for a property to copy its expression rather than its current value.

 

 



 

Property source document

Lists the name of the document that property values will be copied from.

Copy material ( part source only )

If the source document is a part, check this check box to copy the material from the source document.

Select all

Select all text based properties. See below for more information on selecting properties.

Clear all

Clear all property check boxes. See below for more information on selecting properties.

Copy value

Check this check box to included the property in the copied properties set.

Copy property expression

Check this check box to copy the property's property expression in place of the property's value.

 

 

Quick Property Selection

 

Along with the two selection buttons at the top of the property grid, other selections are available from the grid context menu. All selection shortcuts select all text based properties that meet the selection criteria. Numeric, date, design status, and yes / no properties must be selected manually for inclusion.

 

 

 

Note: The part number iProperty cannot be included in the copied properties set.

 

 




Paste Property Values: 


When you have used the iPropWiz Property Copy command to copy property values from an Autodesk Inventor document, you can paste those values to one or more other documents. iPropWiz examines the document types in your selection and will only show the Paste with iPropWiz command if the selection is valid.

To paste the copied property values and or expressions, use any of the following methods:

 

Open a different Autodesk Inventor document. Right-click the graphics screen background. Click Paste iPropWiz properties.

In an Autodesk Inventor assembly, select one or more component occurrences. Right-click one of the occurrences. Click  Paste iPropWiz properties.

In a drawing, right-click a view. Click iPropWiz Paste.

In a drawing, switch to Part Priority Selection. Select one or more parts in any drawing view(s). Right-click one of the part edges. Click  Paste iPropWiz properties.

 

Notes:

You are not required to have the iPropWiz Property Editor ( PE ) open to copy or paste property values using the iPropWiz Copy and Past commands. If you paste values into the active document with the PE open, you may need to apply the changes in the PE to see the full results of the property changes.

 

The copied property values remain available for the iPropWiz Property Paste command until they are replaced with new copied values or Autodesk Inventor is closed.

 

If the current settings limit you to copying property values between similar document types you can:

oCopy properties from a standard Inventor part to other standard parts or virtual parts, but not to sheet metal parts.

oCopy properties from an Autodesk Inventor assembly document to other assemblies, but not to weldment documents.
