Instance Properties - Managing Value Generators

If a text or number type instance property has an associated value generator, you can optionally allow users to reset and/or edit the current value of the generator. The current value of the generator is the value that will be assigned to an instance property before the generator value is incremented.

Reset Value Generator

Both text and number type value generators have a start value. When the user selects Reset value generator from the context menu and confirms the reset, the generator is reset to the start value.

Edit value generator

You can also allow users to edit the current value of the generator. For text value generators the user can select from a list of valid values. For number value generators the user can enter a valid value for the current value. The ability to edit the current value enables users to return the generator to a known state if they applied generated values to an incorrect selection of occurrences.

The text generator edit value dialog enables a user to load valid values for the generator and select a new current value.

The current value of the text generator is displayed above the list. In addition, the current value is shown in bold text in the list.

To change the current value, select a new value from the list and click OK.

Number of values shown in list

The current number of valid values shown in the list is indicated here. Complex text value generators can generate thousands of valid values. When the dialog is first displayed the first five hundred (500) valid values are displayed. See the List Controls topic below for information on displaying additional valid values. If the generator can only generate less than five hundred valid values, all values are displayed when the dialog is first displayed.

List controls

You can find the current value and load additional valid values with the following controls.

	Find the current value in the list. Note that you may have to load additional values to include the current value.
	Load an additional five hundred valid values.
	Load all valid values. Loading of values for complex value generators may take some time. As an estimate, 10,000 valid values are loaded in approximately one (1) second.

Number Generator Edit

The number generator edit value dialog enables a user to enter a valid value for the generator.

Number generator settings

The current value, value increment, and maximum decimal places for generated values are displayed. Only the current value can be changed.

New generator value

Enter a new current value for the number value generator. This value will be the next value applied to a property value when the generator is applied.
