Property Grid - Property expressions

An Autodesk Inventor text based iProperty can derive its value from other text type properties in the same document. iPropWiz enables administrators to create and manage user expressions for all users. They can:

Create and assign fixed property expressions for text based iProperties.

Create and manage iPropWiz Property Extraction rules. This functionality is unique to iPropWiz. The rule extracts a defined set of characters from a text based property in the document and assigns it as the value for another text based property.

Control which properties can have a user defined property expression.

Define lists where one or more list items are property expressions. Users can select a property expression to apply to a property in place of a fixed value.

In the iPropWiz Property Editor ( PE ), property expression or property extraction rule information is displayed in two columns in the property grid.

If the property drives the value of another property, either through a property expression, or via a property extraction rule, a 'Drives' icon is displayed in the grid.

Move the mouse cursor over the glyph to display the property or properties driven by this property.

If the property value is driven by a property expression or a property extraction rule, a 'Driven by' or 'Extracted from' glyph is displayed in the property grid. If a property is driven by a property expression, the glyph tip provides additional information on where the property expression was defined. The following table outlines the information you can display about the property expression or property extraction rule.

Note: (New: Oct 2023 - V7.23+) Autodesk Inventor prevents the  property expression for a text property from varying between model states. You can still apply a property expression to a property in the iPropWiz configuration editor, but editing expressions in the property grid is disabled when document selection is set to a model state mode.

Notes

A fixed property expression drives the property value

The property expression is created and assigned to the property in the iPropWiz Configuration Editor.

Move the mouse cursor over the glyph to display the property expression.

Notes:

If expression editing is not allowed for this property, the value cell font is dimmed (read-only).

If expression editing is allowed for this property, the value cell font is bold, and an edit glyph is displayed in the rightmost column of the row.

.

A property expression selected by the user from a list drives the property value

The list may contain a combination of fixed values and property expressions. An expression is currently selected.

The value cell font is either bold to indicate the cell can be edited, or normal if the user can only select a value from the list.

Move the mouse cursor over the glyph to display the property expression.

A property expression entered by the user drives the property value

The expression may be an existing expression, or a new expression generated by the user in the iPropWiz Property Editor.

In the iPropWiz Property Editor, click the edit glyph in the rightmost column to create or edit a user defined property expression.

Move the mouse cursor over the glyph to display the user defined property expression.

Note: If you override a fixed property expression defined in the configuration with a user defined property expression, you can restore the fixed property expression by deleting all the text in the value cell. When you apply the change the fixed property expression is restored.

An iPropWiz Property Extraction Rule drives the property value

The extraction rule is created and assigned to the property in the iPropWiz Configuration Editor.

You cannot edit the rule in the iPropWiz Property Editor.

Move the mouse cursor over the glyph to display the property extraction rule.
