Configuration Editor - Options - Exported Parameters

In an iPropWiz configuration, you can create and apply custom formatting rules for Autodesk Inventor parameters that are exported as custom iProperties. These tools make it easier for users to format exported parameters, and provide consistency in the formatting applied to the associated custom properties.

The work flow to implement automated formatting of exported Autodesk Inventor parameters is outlined in the following table.

1.

Create one or more iPropWiz Custom Property Format Rules (CPFRs) that define the format for the custom property. These format rules are very similar to the Custom Property Format rules that you can define in Inventor. You can create one or more rules for each of the unit types supported in Autodesk Inventor (length, area, mass, force, and so on). See the Configuration Editor - Custom Property Format Rules page for more information on creating CPFRs.

In the following image, two different CPFRs have been created for Autodesk Inventor length parameters. The Length-Small rule format is displayed in the second image. This CPFR generates a fractional (nearest 1/16") inch based format with the double quote units identifier for inches.

2.

In the iPropWiz Configuration Editor, click the Exported Parameters tab in the Options group. Select an appropriate CPFR for any of the Inventor unit types (i.e length).

In the following image the Length-Small CPFR is selected as the CPFR to be automatically applied to all exported length type parameters (a parameter that has length units). No further action is required in the iPropWiz configuration. If this iPropWiz configuration is active and a user exports a length parameter to a custom iProperty in the Autodesk Inventor Parameters dialog, the custom iProperty will be formatted as defined in the Size rule.

3.

In Autodesk Inventor, the iPropWiz configuration containing the above setup information is active. The user opens the Autodesk Inventor Parameters dialog and checks the Export to Custom iProperty button for the Width model parameter. The user then clicks Done to close the dialog. Since the Width parameter has units of length, the Length-Small CPFR is used to generate an identical Autodesk Inventor CPFR for this exported property.

The exported custom iProperty Width is formatted using the Autodesk Inventor CPFR that was generated as a copy of the iPropWiz Length-Small CPFR.

Notes:  No link is maintained between the iPropWiz CPFR and the generated Autodesk Inventor Custom Property Format rule.

The user can export any number of Autodesk Inventor parameters from the Parameters dialog. All exported custom iProperties are formatted if there is a iPropWiz CPFR assigned to the parameter units type in the current iPropWiz configuration.

If you change the format of an iPropWiz CPFR you must clear the Export to Custom iProperty check box in the Autodesk Inventor Parameters dialog. Close the Parameters dialog, and then reopen the Parameters dialog and export the parameter again to reformat the custom iProperty. Optionally you can manually edit the Autodesk Inventor CPFR controlling the format of the custom iProperty.
