You use the Property Expression Editor to create and edit property expressions and to access the Property Extraction Rule editor.

Click to evaluate the property expression (or property extraction rule) in the current document. If you have a template file open, the preview may be of limited use. |

Click to define or edit the Property Extraction rule for this property. A property can be driven by a Property Expression or a Property Extraction rule, but not both. See the Property Extraction Rule Editor page for more information on creating a Property Extraction rule.

You create a property expression in in the Current expression text box below the Available properties list. You are free to enter any text in the text box, and you use the Available properties list to quickly include property references in the property expression.
You can include a property from the available properties list by either of the following methods.
Double-click a property name in the Available properties list. The bracket property name is added to the end of the current Property Expression. |
Drag and drop a property from the Available properties list to the Current expression text box. This enables you to control the placement of the property in the expression.
To add the new property before an existing property in the expression, drop the property near the beginning the existing property name.
To add the new property after an existing property in the expression, drop the property name near the end of an existing property name.

The following table outlines techniques for editing a property expression.
Other (non-property) text. You can enter other text in the property expression. Do not add text inside the pointy brackets surrounding a property name, or before the equal sign at the beginning of the expression. As you enter text, the expression is validated. An error icon is displayed if the expression is not valid. |
Remove a property reference. To remove a single property reference from the expression, right-click over the property name in the expression. Click Remove. |
General editing. You can copy and paste text into the expression, and use other standard text editing shortcuts and techniques |
Note: The non-property text in a property expression is not processed for capitalization when the expression is evaluated. The value assigned to the property will use the non-property text as it is shown in the expression |
